A practical study guide for MHCLP certification and roleplay license examinations.
Read the program specification and its prerequisites. For each module, write one sentence explaining what your character is responsible for and one sentence explaining the limits of that responsibility. A nursing handoff, a pharmacy scene, and a moderation review need different records, but all require clear boundaries.
Read a worked case without opening its model response. Note what is known, what is missing, and the first action you would take. Then compare your reasoning with the model. If your answer differs, identify which fact or boundary changed the decision. Complete the independent practice before moving on.
Explain a difficult case in your own words: “I would do this first because…”. Refer back to the learning objectives whenever your explanation relies on an assumption. Use the practice library for another scenario, then return to the module that addresses your weakest point.
Open the practice library →Identify the role, the agreed facts, and what the question actually asks. “First action” asks for the immediate step; “best record” asks what should be documented. Do not choose an eventual outcome when the question asks how to begin.
These are reading prompts, not a substitute for the course. Choose the response supported by the specific scenario.
Practice separating a report from a finding. Record the relevant scene, the applicable rule, and what remains uncertain. Consider whether you have a personal conflict and who should review the matter if you do. Credentials do not grant moderation commands or appointment to a staff team.
Work through decisions with competing priorities. Explain who is affected, who owns the decision, how it will be communicated, and when it should be reviewed. A policy should have a clear purpose and a route for questions; a title alone is not a reason to override a player’s boundaries.
Connect feedback to observable behavior. Instead of “poor communication,” identify the missing handoff detail and demonstrate how to improve it. Apply the same criteria to friends and unfamiliar learners. Keep practice feedback separate from claims about a person’s real-world ability.
This checklist is for your own study. It resets when you leave this page and does not mark modules complete.
0 of 5 checked. Revisit any topics you cannot explain confidently.
Go to the examination center →Assessments are untimed and open book. Open reference material in a separate tab so your exam stays open. Use question flags to mark uncertain answers, then filter the final review to flagged or unanswered questions. A flag is a reminder, not a change to your score. Answer every question before submitting.
Certification assessments contain 10 questions; license exams contain 20. The pass mark is 80%: 8 or 16 correct answers respectively. An unsubmitted attempt is cleared if you leave or reload the exam page.
Wait ten minutes after a failed submission. Use that time to revisit the relevant principles and worked cases. Your recent scores are available in My learning. Passing awards a one-year credential; renewal opens 30 days before expiry and requires another passing examination.
